How to write a creative online dating profile
Francesca is a professional dating coach and matchmaker. Don't include these common faux pas. Your profile should start out by describing your most prominent and positive character traits.
It gives men the wrong impression and encourages those you probably aren't interested in to write to you. Think again about when you met someone in person. So you need your profile to show you off in a way that will catch a man's eye and interest right away.
He won't see the scene exactly like you do, but he is capable of visualizing the story you've created with him in it. For example, many people say in their profiles they like to travel. Your story is dictating who is attracted to you, so make sure you are grabbing the attention of the right people.
If they hate sailing, hate the water and hate sailors, they're already gone. Be your authentic self and convey that in your profile. Of course you need compelling photos, but those who are looking for a real relationship will look beyond a pretty face to find out what you are about. When you feel good about yourself, you will become a male magnet. When determining what you want to put in your profile, you need to first know what your best qualities are.
Be sure to also include what you care about. There's nothing sexier to a man than your confidence. Give a snapshot of who you are, how you live your life and the relationship you are seeking. Come up with ideas or small stories that paint a picture of the two of you that a man can imagine himself in.
Since we're talking about writing a profile, I have to mention spelling and grammar. The thoughtfulness and care you put into your profile will show and be appreciated by others. They can be kind of silly, but that's okay. It is more effective to focus on attracting the right people than repelling the wrong ones. Don't use the crutch of describing your job and moving on.
Men see what you look like but if you tell them in a bragging way, they'll think you're stuck up and move on. If you aren't able to be objective about your profile, ask someone you trust to read it for you.
End your profile with a sentence that asks a man to show you he is interested. You might laugh more at his jokes, you pay closer attention to what he says, and you show your best side.
You are trying to attract the right people to you, and to do that you need to be specific. Since this is your first meet and greet, you want your profile to sound flirty and fun.
Plenty of people will be forgiving of typos, but don't risk turning off someone just because you didn't use spellcheck. Plus, it starts the relationship off in a false way.
They're not looking for a repeat of what they just left. If you focus on characteristics you risk sounding superficial, rigid, or overly picky. Leave sex out of your profile. The only difference is in real life you have time to immediately correct a faux pas.
It amazes me how many people use their precious profile real estate to talk about what they don't want or about their cynicism, bitterness or pessimism. Not only do you come across as negative, but you also give the impression that you are the very thing you claim not to want.
